2003年，杨某某刚满18岁，职高毕业，无所事事，浪荡在网吧、游戏厅等娱乐场所。
据杨某某交代，10月12日凌晨他从网吧出来，从市区走路回家，大概走到五六点，天蒙蒙亮，杨某某看到路边有一辆废弃的拖拉机，就在车斗上睡了一觉。
醒来以后，杨某某继续在田野上闲逛，看到橘子林里有一个废弃的休息棚，占地大概三四平米，有一张简单的木板床，角落里有几根木头、一把锄头、一把生锈的菜刀。
杨某某就在棚里又睡了一觉，一直到下午两三点。他醒来看到不远处的菜地里有一个小女孩在摘菜，联想到自己在网吧玩的暴力游戏，于是心生歹念，走到小女孩身后将其拖到棚里杀害。
16年，田间乡野早已变了样，橘子林也变成了竹林，但杨某某仍第一时间指认出案发现场。休息棚仍在，但墙体倒塌，只有一个大致的形状。而这里，离杨某某现在的住所距离不过500米。
喻家失去了年幼的女儿。尸体是在离自家菜地四百米的藕塘里找到的，身上有多处伤痕。警方通过侦查，女孩系被他人杀害。3日记者获悉，浙江义乌公安重启案卷，终于破获该起命案，令所有人没想的是，犯罪嫌疑人杨某某的住处离案发现场仅仅只有500米。 新的科技手段使警方缩小了人员搜索范围。“原来是在大海里捞红鲤鱼，现在是在几个鱼塘里捞红鲤鱼。”杨静开形容道。
怎样才能从几个鱼塘里中精准的找到这条红鲤鱼呢？一开始，杨静开在全国前科人员数据库中筛查出几十个相似的人员，人员分布在全国各地。
一大队的办案民警们对案件进行综合研判，认为本地人作案的可能性更大，从几十个疑似人员中，杨静开进一步筛选，发现有一名姓杨的前科人员与提取出来的物证相关度高，更关键的是，杨某正是附近村子的人。
杨某会是当年的凶手吗？侦查组继续等待比对结果。不多久，检测结果出来，排除了杨某就是凶手的可能，但还有一种可能：凶手可能是杨某的家族成员！
随后，杨某的家族成员成为了警方的重点关注对象，在浙江省省公安厅专家组的协助下，比对结果将凶手指认。犯罪嫌疑人杨某某在家中被警方抓获。
一开始，杨某某不承认自己的罪行，办案民警张益平、黄得晨等人彻夜不眠，将口供突破，杨某某最终承认了自己的罪行。
